SMC’s Shale Gas & Manufacturing Forum Exceeds Expectations
High attendance and highly acclaimed guest speakers made SMC’s Shale Gas & Manufacturing: Find Your Link in the Supply Chain event a huge success! The half-day seminar, sponsored by the SMC Manufacturers Council, was held at the Four Points by Sheraton, Pittsburgh North, in Cranberry Township, and had more than 175 people in attendance.
“The word for this SMC event is WOW! It was impressive to see the volume of sponsor and partner tables and advertisements.  It was impressive to see those in attendance take advantage of the sponsors' materials.  It was impressive to have on target, informative and entertaining speakers.  It was impressive to see a large number of manufacturers in attendance at an event.   It was impressive to have 175 people in attendance and to not have any seemingly go away unsatisfied!,” expressed a thrilled Mark Shelleby, Chair-Elect and Emcee of yesterday’s ground-breaking SMC event.
“The follow up events on Marcellus Shale and manufacturer activism are sure to be well attended and be the spring board to success for SMC and its' membership,” Shelleby added. SMC Chairman Dan Galbraith echoed his enthusiasm, stating, “This was a spectacular SMC event. Every nuance of the half-day seminar was skillfully planned out and executed by SMC staff and the topic and speakers could not have been better.”
SMC Member Andy Birol, Birol Growth Consulting, kicked off the event with his high-energy, audience-involving half-hour talk. From cheetahs to baboons, Birol’s speaking was electric as he pulled the audience in with his no-nonsense approach to getting your business involved with the Marcellus Shale boom.
Also of interest was Guest Speaker Jon Laughner, Educator, Penn State Extension, Monaca, PA who brought attention to western Pennsylvania’s wet and dry natural gas and discussed why Royal Dutch Shell’s announcement of a proposed ethane cracker plant in Beaver County could be the tip of a manufacturing re-emergence in the region. “The Marcellus Shale boom will surely stimulate our local economy,” Laughner stated.
Guest Speaker Connie Palucka, Managing Director, Business Growth Services, Catalyst Connection, present the findings of two extensive studies surrounding the opportunities that exist within the Marcellus Shale supply chain. Information from Catalyst Connection, Guest Speaker Pat McCune, President and CEO, Community Bank, and Steven Adelkoff, President & COO, Renewable Manufacturing Gateway, was all well received.
Thank you to the sponsors of this event, which included Fay-Penn Economic Development Council, Marcellus Resource Group, The Marcellus Shale.com, The Utica Shale.com, and Manpower, and the SMC Manufacturing Councils for supporting and enhancing this event. And thank you to the Partners of the forum, which include Birol Growth Consulting, Catalyst Connection, Community Bank, Penn State Extension, Monaca, PA, Renewable Manufacturing Gateway, THE CHAMBER of Commerce, Inc., and Monroeville Area Chamber of Commerce, for getting the word out to their membership, which helped to build attendance.
